New project, same as the old project (the old, old one!)

Just taking a quick break here from the busy day job (we're days away from our next big release, and I'm swimming in docs, most of 'em unfinished!). Having finished all revising and tweaking to Sixteen Miles from Everywhere on Sunday (just in time for the rainy superbowl and a rocking Prince), I was starting to wonder what I'd work on next. Maybe some stories, and do some revising to the baseball novel (again).

And then on the way home, it hit me. I need to go back to my urban fantasy novel that was on the fence, unsure whether it was a young-adult novel or an adult novel, and cut it down to size and make it a YA novel. Which means I need to pretty much trash the opening sections and get rid of all the extraneous point-of-view characters and focus on one protagonist. By the time my commute was over, I had a new opening in mind, and a sudden desire to read those last few Harry Potter books I hadn't gotten to yet...

Speaking of, I'm looking for recommendations of more young-adult books that you've read and enjoyed. I've only read Harry and a handful of others, like Holly Black's Tithe and Graham Joyce's TWOC. Let me know in the Comments section, please! I've been eyeing James Owens' Here There Be Dragons book -- anyone read that?

Okay, enough fantasizing... back to the world of software user information. Later!

UPDATE: Okay, forgot to ask folks about typical word-counts for YA books (for those of you who've written 'em, and you know who you are!). Is it about 50k?
