Towards a definition of Chess- Martin Collins

Chess is both a game and a life,
A war, a conversation, a cosmic roll of the dice
A game which requies intelligence , cunning and strategy,
Obliges the player to create solutions to both short,
And long term problems.
Through which of necessity the player has to both defend and attack.
To protect ones dear ones, to machinate, to plot , to kill.
It also requires a player to have the courage to sacrifice members of his family/his pieces in order to defeat his/her opponent. As we all make sacrifices to achieve our goals It constitutes a metaphor for eternal elements both within our society/culture and within ourselves.
It is not a game for the woolly minded or squeamish.
