Saturday Sweetness

It rained most of the day today. Not the hard driving cold rain of yesterday, but a gentle rain that made the air so soft and sweet you could get drunk just breathing.

By late afternoon the rain had turned to mist and I couldn't stay away from the garden any longer. I got out the shovel, rake and hoe and went to work loosening the soil, breaking up the clumps and sifting through the dirt to extract the weedy roots and odd leafy bits.

Because the ground was wet it was hard physical labor but the garden patch is fairly small. Unfortunately, it's very popular with the snails. They like all the organic stuff in it, I think.

Tomorrow I'm off to get snail eliminator and tomato plants. I tried putting out a dish of beer for them to drown in, but the dog likes beer, too. Not enough to drown in it, but to drink it and lick her chops afterward.

I came inside, washed off the mud (I never remember my gloves until too late) and now I'm going to treat myself to a trashy detective novel. Well, not exactly trash, but not intellectually stimulating, either. One of the Rita Mae Brown books.

Later, gator!
