Triple Digits

Triple digits and with the Pineapple Express moving up from Mexico, the humidity has jumped from 13% to 52% in one day and is still rising. Time for shorts and sleeveless tops and not much more (sandals required on hot sidewalks).

I got up at 5:30 to do what little housework I'm going to do today. It was nice and cool ouside, but the house inside never really cools down completely overnight in weather like this. I cleaned most of the kitchen (saving cleaning out the refrigerator for later in the day when the chill will be most welcome) and watered the plants. In this kind of weather they just soak up the moisture and beg for more.

The cats lounge in the coolest places they can find; come out stretching and yawning when they think food is about to be served and then disappear once more until the evening hunt begins. The mighty huntress has been reduced to bringing in leaves again--no game afoot. Too damned hot!

The dog would like to stay cool, but if her Prime Mover goes into a hot part of the house or yard, she goes with me, panting and flopping down in the coolest spot within a 5 foot radius. True love. The cats love me, too, but they are "foul weather" friends. Get a bit of chill, some rain, and they are ready to cuddle.

It has been a lovely 3-day weekend so far. No deep discussions; no frenzied housecleaning. Just a lick and a promise to the house, my beloved dog, and a great book to read whilst sipping an iced tea. Who could ask for anything more?
