Papoosed or Cocooned
Previous Entry :: Next Entry

It got down to freezing last night. Not figuratively, literally. Since I turn off the heater at night, the house got REALLY cold.

I know that it was super cold, because when I woke up this morning I couldn't move. During the night I had evidently rolled over and over, swathing myself in layers of sheet and blanket. In the morning I was like a very large papoose, arms and legs bound tightly, with only my nose and face poking out.

I began to struggle, before I was awake enough to realize that what I needed to do was unwind by rolling the other way. I seriously dislike being bound up, wrapped up tightly and unable to move. And for just a few seconds there, I was panicky...

Then I woke up, rolled back the other way a couple of times and slithered out the top of my cocoon, no longer a pupa, but a somewhat bedraggled butterfly.

As soon as my wings were dry, I flew out of the house, off to coffee and thence to office.
