California spends on average a little over $7,000 per student per year to educate our children.

And spends on average $58,000 annually to incarcerate a prisoner. This figure, however, includes room and board, health care and counseling, clothing and entertainment (such as it is)--items provided to students by their families.

Even so, I think there is something fundamentally wrong with how we spend our tax dollars.
