Over the weekend B went across the border with other UU friends to visit community centers and an orphanage in Tijuana. She came back late last night (long after I'd drifted off in the arms of Morpheus) and this morning wanted to talk about her activities over the weekend.

She delights in the visual impact of experience and she painted word pictures of where she went and what she saw so vivid that I could see them in my mind's eye. What she described was so much like my two years in India that I had no trouble relating to her story.

The difference between rural poverty and the destitution of the urban poor is striking--in both cultures. However in India there was not the added influence of deportees dumped across the border with only the clothes on their body and the pain of separation from family and resources as there was in Mexico.

Three hours later she had talked me into exhaustion and herself into a whirlwind of activity--I do not know where that woman gets her energy from, except maybe as an extreme extrovert she is energized by conversation and human contact. Anyway, she is now on the phone, arranging for an expedition from our church to go back to Tijuana and work at one of the community centers, serving meals or providing other help. She's amazing!

It's going on 10:30 and I'm just starting my day. Good thing I have only 8 items on my To Do List. I'll have to take a page from Kramer's book and learn to procrastinate; he's the professional and will be my mentor.
