How do people go to sleep? I'm afraid I've lost the knack. I might try busting myself smartly over the temple with the night-light. I might repeat to myself, slowly and soothingly, a list of quotations beautiful from minds profound; if I can remember any of the damn things. ~Dorothy Parker

For the past two nights, I have not been able to sleep from about 0100 to 0500. There is no clear reason for this.

Monday night tactics: Read. Checked email. Had hot milk with honey. Robaxin (aka Canadian Flexoril) for my back pain. Read. Read again. Fell asleep around 0530. Slept until 0700, got up, ate and got to work on time.

Tuesday night tactics: Read. Hot milk and honey. Leftover taco meat and pineapple salsa. Codeine, on the off chance it would make me sleepy (it didn't - since when?!). Moved to the couch around 0300 to attempt TV flatline. Unsuccessful. Slept at 0500, up at 0630 because I had a meeting.

Wednesday night tactics: Puttered. Chatted with the Cajun. Modest dinner: cheese and pineapple salsa quesadilla and two gin and tonics. Inventoried the camping gear. Waited up for LOST to start. Watched LOST, wrote this, and hoped to high heaven that staying up until 2300 would mean that I'd sleep through the night.
