Successive Approximations
Toward Becoming a Bed Person

I slept last night. I only woke in my typical ways (when the cat jumped up, when I had to pee), rather than waking for four hours at a time.

Yesterday the Cajun suggested I could get inexpensive foam pads at K-Mart. Since I don't shop there, I had no idea. But there they were. I bought two. (Have two, they're thin.)

I recalled that, on the night I had the best sleep during the no-sleep debacle, I had been on the couch, with two pillows between me and the arm of the couch. This propped my torso at a slight angle. Hmmmm. So I tried that.

Bingo! Somehow, it all worked. No need to binge on comfort foods to induce food stupor. No artificial G&T lassitude. Just sleep.

I pushed the snooze button for almost an hour, so that I could wallow in the loveliness of my bed. I had a sweet time petting The Buckleburr, got up, and heated coffee and a croissant. I put aside thoughts of exercise and compulsion (time for that after work). I've got a half hour before I need to be dressed and out of here.

I feel so much better.
