Storage space on Vashon is precious. As in there isn't much of it, and it costs. I'm living in about 600 square feet, down from 1600 only two years ago. So you can imagine.

I debated the whole "pay money to keep what I'm not using" scenario, and decided it wasn't feasible. Until this morning.

As I parked my motorcycle, my friendly school secretary, Lance, walked up and said, "Dari has a massage chair she never uses and she wondered if you could use it."

"Sure, how much?" I asked.

"You can have it. It's been in storage for years; she never does chair massage anymore."

"Well, I'd want to give her something for it." I said.

"Nothing. You can have it, really."

"Well, thank you! That's very kind." In my near-speechlessness, I actually said something socially appropriate.

And now that Lance and Dari are un-storing the massage chair, it looks like I finally have to give in and store some things in order to make room for it. The scales have tipped over to the 'you own too much stuff' side.

Island Security Self Storage, you've got me back. And at least for a time, I can live the fantasy of open space in my home. Hmmm. No clutter. I might panic. As the Cajun is fond of saying, "We'll see."
