Five AM Review

I woke up at 4:30am to get the cat off the side roof, and now I can't go back to sleep. While I'm waiting for it to be acceptable to move about and make noise, I thought I could give you a mini tour of my new neighborhood of downtown Arlington, Washington.

Totally uncharacteristic of this town's esthetic is Bistro San Martin. It is an amazing and upscale restaurant, and lucky for me, is right next door.

A block and a half north is Playa Bonita. It's the usual Mexican-for-Americans fare, with the heat turned down, and lots of cheese. But it's good, and the margaritas are gringo-friendly.

Then just across from Playa Bonita is The Local Scoop. Yup, an ice cream store. Bitches! Just what I don't need! But I am intending to try it out. Just to see what I'll be missing, of course.

Here's another one that seemed out of place, but I'll definitely take it: The Shire Cafe. They advertise "fresh, healthy, gourmet vegetarian food" with breakfast. lunch and dinner, including vegan options. They are in the old Methodist Church, and offer dine-in, take out, or (be still my heart) delivery. Featured activities include "live music events, open mic nights, Karaoke, movie nights", and you can join a Flute Circle on the 2nd Saturday of every month, or go to the Psychic Fair on 3rd Sundays (that one not so much for me).

I could go on and on: Thai, Starbucks, McD's, Subway (thank you, Jesus!), three or four mom-and-pop diners, a steak house . . .

I will not be at a loss for dining opportunities for quite some time.

Ciao bella.
