My niece was over this weekend. It was great. Now, when I say great, I mean it was just fine, with no real upsets. We pretty much watched movies, and I puttered some. I didn't put huge demands on her, because none needed to be made.

While I worked on Saturday, she hung out at the grandparents' house. I think there might have been a game of Scrabble (a big deal in our family), but otherwise it was movies and books.

Then we had - you guessed it - movie time at my place, with popcorn and coffee.

This morning was Swedish pancakes, coffee and back bacon. And, yes, more movies. Around 11, we got in the car to make a pilgrimage to the waterfall on FS Rd 2060. Asbestos Creek Falls, on Jumbo Mountain. It is sacred.

The rocks up the left bank proved too slippery for us to climb to the first pool, so we tried going uphill through the heavy woods on the right. We were bummed to find that although we could gain plenty of vertical, there was no safe place to get down to the pool due to very steep rock walls and no good handholds. It was all very dewy and cold there, so that meant slick rocks and slippery forest floor, despite loads of pine needles and downed branches.

KB was enthralled with taking pics of tiny fungi and items of spontaneous beauty. She was the one who steered us right when we descended; I was too far west and she found our original steep path.

We drove further up the road, because I thought it ended, but a quick map consultation proved me wrong. Not wanting to spend all day on rocky mountain roads, we headed home, where Ms. KB watched "Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium".

Dinner was pho at Than Brothers because they effing ROCK. Then I put her on a boat, called her dad to let him know which boat to meet, and that was that.

All is well. She wants to come back and do it all over again. I don't blame her.

Yeah, there were a few heavy discussions, but that's for another time, if at all. Suffice it to say that she knows I understand her, and that my door is always open.

I love my little Billy Kwan! (Nickname is also a long story.)
