My daughter tells me that she is "straight edge".....no drugs, no alcohol, no sex. Why do these wonderful choices include marking her wrists with an "x"? At least it is just in pen and not a tatoo. Great choices, weird way to advertise them.

My son is having a tough time with fourth grade. It is killing me to watch him struggle as he transitions from learning to read into reading to learn. I know we are doing everything we can, (great school, great tutor, appropriate meds, other activities in his life in which he excels, maintaining high expectations etc etc), but it still hurts.

A patient told me today that having an EKG was fun. This was after spending 15 minutes convincing her that it wasn't going to hurt.

A young lady I have been seeing since she was 15 months old has scored high enough on the PSAT to be a National Merit Finalist. She made this score as a sophmore. Now she is looking at these wonderful universities and trying to decide what to be as she grows up. I am jealous and at the same time so honored to be a small part of her life.

I forgot today was school pictures at my son's school. He was wearing an old faded shirt, his hair is fuzzy and needs to be rebraided, and he claims he stuck his tongue out for the picture. That'll be one for the babybook....if I ever start the babybook.

Both children had to be dragged inside at sunset today. The temperature was in the low 80's and we had low humidity...this is the weather that makes me stay in this area. It'll be like this most of the next 4 months and again for 2 months in the spring. Between our lovely falls and springs and not ever having to shovel snow, I can almost tolerate hurricane season.
