What is insurance?

St Paul's insurance is no longer going to offer homeowner's insurance to people in my area. Fortunately, that is not the company we use but it has made me think.

What will we do if our company leaves this market? I refuse to buy insurance through the Citizens Insurance of the state. It costs 3 times as much and has horr-i-ble service. Some people are choosing to leave this area because homeowner's insurance has gotten so expensive. Some doctors choose to self insure for malpractice insurance. I wonder if that is even possible for homeowner's. If the house is paid for, I guess it is possible but what if there is still a mortgage?

I have to admit that it makes me wonder sometimes why we stay. We seriously considered leaving last year, but now that Miss Teen is in high school I really feel like we should stay until she is finished.

Could we even sell our house if it we wanted to? Who would buy in this area with the hurricane scares, the rebuilding questions, the horrible insurance situation etc etc?

It is these kind of worries that keep me from falling asleep at night.

I truly believe that we are called to be here doing the work that we do. But, as often happens with calls, I sure wish God would clue me in on how these *petty* worries will work out over time.
