me in the piazza

I'm a writer, publishing both as SJ Rozan and, with Carlos Dews, as Sam Cabot. (I'm Sam, he's Cabot.) Here you can find links to my almost-daily blog posts, including the Saturday haiku I've been doing for years. BUT the blog itself has moved to my website. If you go on over there you can subscribe and you'll never miss a post. (Miss a post! A scary thought!) Also, I'll be teaching a writing workshop in Italy this summer -- come join us!

Non-waterbird

Working outside today -- have laptop, will travel. Sitting by the river watching a sparrow take a dirtbath. He's about a foot away from me, but I think he thinks I'm part of the furniture. The gravel at the area with the chairs and tables has a sunny corner protected by a low wall which the sparrows have made their spa. They fly down in small groups, or, like this guy, alone, and roll around in the dirt until their feathers are all fluffed. They preen, roll around some more. This guy's really going at it. But I guess it's too early for the after-lunch bird crowd, because he's all alone.
