I had a clever(?) title in my head, but it got lost when YD called me with this news. How absolutely awful. And I cross longer bridges daily. (Except that I don't use the new interstate bridge--I use the two lane one built in 1928.)

So what else to talk about?

There's a new Visiting Scholar at the Women's Center. She introduced herself to me and said that when the director had been showing her around she commented on the stacks of boxes by "my" carrel and told her about me. I feel good about the work I'm doing there. I don't think it would be getting done otherwise. And I am acquiring all sorts of arcane trivia tidbits.

Oh--and this new person asked what I was working on--I suspect Beth had mentioned something. It is good to be able to talk about my project and the questions I'm trying to find tentative answers to. (Since a preposition is something you never end a sentence with, I should change that last phrase to "to which I am trying to find . . . )

I realized today that I need to get my ideas better organized so that when Pat and I have lunch in a couple of weeks I can use her as a sounding board.

Driving home this afternoon the weather was nice and sunny and dry. And then as I got to the eastern side of New Orleans the sky got darker. I spent most of the rest of the drive betting with myself as to whether the weather would rain on me before I got home and inside.

I did get a bit of rain, but when I had to get out of the car to get the mail and paper it wasn't raining right there. Talk about luck!

Based on the weather map there will be rain tonight.

Last night I heard critter noises and looked out. There were two of whatever is opening the ice chest and eating the cat food. It was dark and I couldn't see much, except that there were two of them.

I'm not completely unpacked from the vacation yet. A couple of times I've been ready to do that but a large yellow cat is sleeping on the suitcase.

Tomorrow there is just the usual stuff on the to-do list--weed, tidy, etc.

Time to see if I can learn more about the bridge collapse.
