I was settling down today to (finally) doing my 2006 taxes. I'd filed for an extension back in April and, based on previous slothful years, I "knew" today was The Day.

Problem: I'm not sure I ever got the 2006 tax booklet from the IRS. At any rate, it wasn't with the other stuff. Not a problem in this microchip age--I logged on to irs.gov and was ready to copy all the forms I needed. I got that done, and then ran across the online page about extensions. Lo and behold, it said I had SIX MONTHS, rather than the usual four. And, if I want to be picky, since I live in Katrinaland I actually have until Feb. 28, 2008.

I was REALLY not in the mood to do taxes, what with the heat and all, and now I can take my time.

Besides, the heat will probably be leaving us soon, to be replaced by rain. I doubt we'll get much (if any) from Erin, but the next few days will give us an idea of where Dean will go.

Now I have to make a firm resolve to spend significant time each week on the expletive tax return.

Other than that, it's been an at-home day about like any other, with OPAC at PJ's this afternoon.
