And that's in more ways than one.

There's that football game, of course, but around here it's the Bacchus parade--one of the biggest. And it's a relatively new Krewe--it didn't exist when we left here in 1968, and it was already a semi-tradition when we returned in 1976.

I spent a very relaxing day, doing some stuff inside. (Some of what I did involved closed eyes.) I need to make another "donation" of various body fluids in the coming week. I'll call to see if the lab is open tomorrow. I doubt it will be open Tuesday.

On Tuesday, Popeye's Fried Chicken--and a bunch of other fried chicken places--usually opens by 0630 at the latest. People who are going in to N.O. for Mardi Gras (or over to Jefferson Parish) come by to get their food supplies etc. Some people set up their own grills and cook there on the streets. I think there's a cooking contest each year.

I started a new book yesterday by Carol Gilligan. Her best known book is In a Different Voice, written in the eighties. I read it in a women's anthropology course, and it was one of those that gives you a jolt. In fact, I'm not the only person who came out of that course thinking in all new ways.

This book, however, is a work of fiction. Kyra is a very imaginative architect who grew up on Cyprus. Her husband was killed by her half-brother.

That's as far as I've gotten, but I'm anxious to really get into the book.

It seems to strange to be reading an author with whom you are familiar, but who is now writing in a totally different manner from her anthropological work.

The announcers' voices are sounding a bit more excited--guess I'll go watch the game.
