And that was my only concession to the "day."

It was my fourth work day this week. Tomorrow I shall begin a three-day weekend. Only trouble is that I'm sure I have enough on my to-do list to occupy three weeks. But since the to-do list is only theoretical, I will be doing well if I get one day's worth done.

Just think, if we were always caught up on various stuff, what would we have to look forward to?

I was greeted outside by two cats--not both at once, but sequentially. And then I spotted a third cat sitting on the back step and ogling the two girls. When I went to put out the raccoon food I smelled the third cat's calling card. He'll die of old age before these queens come into heat.

Emma debated coming in this evening, but stayed out. If she visits long enough she'll probably come inside. However, the garage is open and there are places to sleep in there.

On the archival front, the special (photo) slide holders came in and I transferred 53 pages--most with 20 slides each--into the new ones. The old slide holders were very stiff and discolored. On Monday I'll be able to finish up that last bit of the exchange student/graduate fellowship person's collection.

And then I can get back to the person my age.

One of the challenges is figuring out exactly when a letter was written. Much of the time only the month and day are given, so one has to look for other clues. I had a letter written about a baby being born. No last name, but there was a reference to FDR having absolutely trounced his opponent Alf Landon.

Aha! That gave me four possibilities--1932, 1936, 1940, and 1944.

Okay: not 1932--Hoover was soundly defeated. And not 1944--Dewey ran then, as I sort of recall. That left 1940, and I tried and tried to remember FDR's opponent. The name was there, but too deep beneath other trivia. I was fairly sure, however, that it was not Landon. So, I opted for 1936, and then googled Landon. I was right. And then I remembered the 1944 opponent--Wendell Wilkie.

I read the letter a couple more times and realized the baby that had been born had to have been my "subject." That's the same year I was born.

That's why I like what I'm doing.
