This afternoon everytime I looked around a different cat was either coming in or going out.

Normally, only Lady lets herself in and out.

However, Emma tore an opening (one which the late Freckles had created originally) in the screen of the front porch. I spotted it after Emma's first disappearance and thought I had "fixed" it by nailing a carpet scrap over it.

One day last week I spotted CC on the front porch--outside. By the time I got back inside so had she.

This evening Emma was overcome with the feeding of wet food to the resident female cats (the fat male doesn't like it) and suddenly popped in. Next thing I knew, CC was outside again. And then Emma.

At the moment, CC is inside, Emma is outside, and Lady is either asleep in the hall by the heat register or outside.

Last night I had the two girls sleeping on me, and it wasn't even that cold. I think it's being proprietary on their parts.

Fabian's attitude is as laid back as it can be--"whatever."

Correction re: Lady's "bed"--the half-full laundry basket (an old lidless kitchen wastebasket) is in the hall (as opposed to the hall closet) and Lady is curled up in the pile of dirty clothes.

I started a new book yesterday--it's set in ancient India along the lower part of the Indus River. This was the site of the third civilization to develop with minimal contact from others. (The first was Mesopotamis c. 3500 BCE, the second was Egypt, c. 3000 BCE. The Indus Valley was c. 2500 BCE, and Greece c. 2000. I can't be sure without looking it up, but I think China was c. 1500 BCE.)

At any rate, it's quite interesting. And I don't recall the title at the moment.

This is the weekend for the NBA All-Star game and there's a lot going on. Today about 2500 volunteers, most of whom are associated with the NBA somehow, fanned out to do volunteer work in the community. By the end of the weekend there will be several new playgrounds (with basketball courts, of course) as well as the ongoing general projects like gutting houses and working with Habitat for Humanity.

In ten minutes there will be two consecutive episodes of "House" telecast. Time to settle down for that.

BTW--I read while I watch TV.
