I got a property tax bill reminder the other day.

Aside from the fact that this is the first time I have had to pay property tax since we moved here, it really irked me because when I got the original bill I paid it.

In the relatively recent past I would have simply copied the cancelled check and sent it to them.

But no--the bank is no longer returning cancelled checks.

So, I copied my check register with the entry, and then dug into back statements (on line) to get the one that showed the check had been paid.

I spent close to an hour with this project, because the check register from December (when I wrote the check) was semi-filled.

By the time I got the statements copied I was too tired to try to get a copy of the check. I don't think they were available online at that time.

So, tomorrow I shall go to the bank and smile sweetly (because the person I'm talking to does not get the obscene salary the bigwigs do) and persuade the low-level associate to get me a copy of the check.

Of course, said check might be at home somewhehre, but I'm not too likely to have saved that one. I save checks for tax-deductible items, but not that. (Those checks go straight into the tax folder.)

Also tomorrow--I shall call the property tax office and find out where they are, in case I can't just mail them a copy of the check.

And I shall ask why my property tax suddenly appeared, and at a relatively high rate. Between homestead exemption and being 74, it should be pretty low.

Other than that, it's been an IUD, albeit another really hot one.

My computer room is lovely and cool. I may go rent Arby's
AC for a while. My stomach is saying that it's about time to think about eating.
