Settling In for the Night?

It's been a this and that day. The euphoria of last night's game is still hanging in there.

In the morning I had a call from Urgent Care--the place I first visited with the head lump.

They called to tell me that the specimen of goop from the bump that they'd sent to the lab had tested out with nothing to be concerned about. I told the woman the name of the person at my regular doctor's office who was now tending my head and its bump.

That was very thorough of the Urgent Care people, and I am quite impressed by it.

Now if only the swelling would go down and stay down. At least I figured out how to keep a dressing on it without looking like the losing side of a bar fight.

And now it is evening. I just spent about half an hour or so chatting with the guy who once once a little kid down the street. He's aware that there is work to be done on the yard etc, and is more than willing to do it. He's got at least one child (he's not married) and good reasons to work diligently.

We were both talking about how it used to be on this street, before those eight acres next to me got sold and deforested.

As he was leaving Mama Goldie zipped across the driveway, so I told him about the albino raccoons living in the area.

So now it's cooling down a bit. I certainly hope the heavy heat of last month is gone for the year.

While I ate at Arby's this evening I started (re)reading Bring the Jubilee by Ward Moore. It's about a novella in length, and I first read it probably in the early 50s. It's an alternate history in which the South won the Civil War and flourished, while the defeated North declined rapidly. I'm about a third of the way through it.
There's a fair amount of evening still available, so I may be able to finish it tonight.

I can't sleep in much tomorrow--Daniel will be by to attack the yard (I hope).
