A nice day and it started relatively early.

Daniel (kid from down the street--although he has to be in his mid thirties or so by now) came over with all sorts of things that made noise and cut through stems. Between my neighbor who loves to mow lawns and Daniel, the yard is looking pretty good.

When Daniel and his twin brother were little kids I'd pay them to pull weeds. I got them both in my swim classes (supposedly the weed-pulling was their swim fee) and they ended up with far more swimming skills than most of the kids who just sort of learned from each other.

Daniel is a hard worker. He has at least one kid that I know of. He and the mother aren't married, but he talks like a father who is a presence in his kid's life.

At one point (years ago) the family's front yard would have been a shoo-in for messiest and junkiest white trash yard. But things have cleaned up since then.

At any rate, my yard is looking better and better.

After he'd finished, I checked the critter food and realized I needed to go replenish several items, so it was off to WalMart.

Now the assorted critters have been fed, and I am about to dig into the salad I got from the WM deli.
