Yesterday I was at work until 10. Fortunately, my coworker gave me a ride home. We weren't at the top of our game, so I missed a step that bit us this morning. I should have fired off a long-running job last night, but didn't think of it.

My new building is not quite in the boonies, but it's not very close to public transit. I'm glad I have my bike, else I'd be very screwed if I work late. This might not be a bad thing, btw. It may give me incentive to just say "fukitol" and tell my boss that it's going to fail because heroic efforts should not be the norm.

My old commute was almost a mile north onto campus, then almost a mile within campus to my building. My new commute is three miles south to the office park, then another mile around it to the far side because they're doing construction on the nearest part. I may be able to cut through, but the construction is for the new buildings, so they may very well cut me off anyhow from work.

It's a little more than half a mile flat, then a little more than half a mile down on a moderate downward slope. Another mile or so on flat, then half a mile or less on an aggressive upward slope. After that, the last mile and some is on almost flat. It's that half mile uphill that throws me.

Our building is completed, but the other two buildings are still under construction. We don't have a cafeteria, nor do we have showers. This makes getting a bracing ride into work problematic, as I don't want to be anti-social. My current work-around is to take the commuter bus in, then ride my bike back.

The commuter bus runs four or five runs southbound in the morning, and four or five runs northbound in the evening. That's all. After waiting with Kitten for the school bus, I can catch the last southbound run if I hurry. I don't know about the northbound one.

My office is crazy. It's got enough there for another post, so I'll leave it for that. Suffice to say I viewed moving with the same enthusiasm as I would if I had to move into a college dormitory: it's going to be a hassle, but I'll get a chance to infuse the room with personality. You'll see what I mean with one of the subsequent posts.

For now, it's late, and I need sleep. Thanks for reading, and apologies for not reciprocating. Life is just kicking me all over my lower body, and some parts are not dealing with it well at all.
