(Written 22 March, just back-filling the dates.)

The day before my mother's death, I shared the lyrics to "Promise," a song that I loved that was part of the (Walt Disney World) Epcot Center fireworks show's soundtrack.

Kitten was always afraid of fireworks. This one time, we saw Fantasmic already and she liked it, but Epcot's Illuminations is something else entirely. Fantasmic at WDW is set in a stadium, so there's the feeling of being 'in the audience.' Illuminations is sufficiently large that anywhere in the World Showcase (all the nation-specific pavilions) is viewing.

She was nervous, but we managed to calm her jitters down so she'd watch it "just this once." We positioned ourselves near both a storefront and the closest exit to our hotel in case she melted down.

She was entranced. After the first rocket took flight with a sizzle and ended its arc with a boom, she just gaped and pointed.

"Promise" is the closing number, when the globe centerpiece turns into a huge 'video monitor,' but powered by LEDs. It shows cultures and people across the world as the globe slowly revolves.

We tried to sing it, but the lyrics aren't quite as simple as "Small World." The afore-linked JournalScape entry to the lyrics was from when I wrote the lyrics out in a large and clear hand for Kitten to sing along the next time she saw the show, which was the next night. And the night thereafter.

She's so taken with the song that now, a season after that trip, she still sings it, still dances to it. I'm glad to have shared my love for that song with her.

I'm glad to make a memory.
