Today is the fourth anniversary of the blessed marriage between myself and Mrs The Fyd. Long may the connubial bliss continue, and of course I must thank my wonderful wife for consenting to bring me so much happiness.

We honeymooned for a week in Vancouver, B.C. (as opposed to Vancouver, USA, which is just across the Columbia river from Portland and where honeymooning would be a slow death as in any boring suburb anywhere -- my apologies to residents of the Couv, but you know I'm right). Besides the attractions of that beautiful city, I'm reminded of another event of four years ago. I speak, of course, of the World Cup. And the throngs of South Koreans honking their car horns, driving past our rented apartment, loudly celebrating either their tie with the US or victory over Portugal.

The World Cup begins on Friday, but this time I won't have as much leisure to watch matches. We should have taken a couple of weeks off and gone to Vancouver again.
