I probably shouldn't weigh in on this whole "War on Christmas" thing again, but I think I have to a comedy piece to go with the serious one or they take my blogging license away.  Let's do this thing, bullet-point style, yo! Um, yeah.

  • Why do we even need to get into the whole "holiday" or "Christmas" break question as far as schools go?  It's pretty much semester break for everyone, right?  The schools up here also get a week in February (for reasons I'm still not clear on) -- they don't call that "Valentine's day break" even though it usually incorporates Valentine's Day.  I also tried to start this thing where "Spring Break" was referred to as "Whitney's Birthday Week Extravaganza" but it didn't take.

  • Speaking of which [oops- took out the Haunukkah joke in the previous paragraph, my bad], my daily commute takes me on an elevated subway line through one of the largest Hasidic Jewish communities in the world, and things in my neighborhood tend to cater to their presence a bit more than normal -- for instance, the post office is open on Sunday.  Still, I have yet to see a not-specifically-Jewish business put up Haunukkah decorations alongside the Christmas trees. Although I suppose Burger King doesn't do a lot of Hasidic business, what with the cheeseburgers and the fact that their chicken is gross.

  • There's a Muslim holiday in December too, did you know?  It's not Ramadan, but I don't remember what it's called.  But I know it exists because the parking rules get suspended for religious observances. How can religious plurality possibly be a bad thing if it means nobody has to move their car?

  • Tired of me trying to be funny? Here's Keith Olbermann and Mo Rocca.  It's like a bonus Daily Show segment! Further proof that Keith Olbermann is a taller Jon Stewart with actual journalism training!
