Yup, I got called in for jury duty today. And, of course, I got selected for a trial. And, of course, I was put in the same enpanelling group as the loudest, most obnoxious person in the ENTIRE jury pool. (Thankfully, she was so obnoxious that the lawyers dumped her off our jury -- perhaps that was her strategy.)

But at least my case looks to be fairly simple, and they're saying it will probably only take one or two days.

And at least I'm missing work for this reason and not because I have bronchitis and a viral infection, like my coworker. (Although of course I have to have jury duty when she's out sick. But I don't have to go back until Tuesday, maybe she'll be better by then.)

Oh, did I mention my boss has been offered a job by another university that he's probably going to take, and it's not at all certain that NYU won't just eliminate the entire department instead of hiring a replacement?

But, at least my life isn't so awful that I would throw myself in front of a subway train, the way someone possibly did while I was trying to get to work on Monday. (That's not verified, by the way, but someone did wind up on the tracks somehow; people around me were saying he jumped, but I don't think they had actually witnessed anything.) Anyway, that's kind of kept me from doing too much complaining this week.
