I Am Not Quoting the All Too Appropriate David Bowie Song For The Title of This Post

I'm talking to my dad last weekend while he's browsing the Internet, or maybe the local paper, and he says "huh, the new Miss America went to Jenks High School."

"Oh?" I say, thinking January is the wrong time of year for the Miss America pageant. (Yes, I know way more about the pageant than should someone who has never been in one. But in my defense, one of the characters in my thesis novel was, so I have done a little research.)

"Yeah," Dad continues, "I'm not sure whether she was Miss Oklahoma or not [she was], but she went to Jenks."

I think about how, about ten years ago, Shawntel Smith was crowned Miss America, and no one in Oklahoma was unaware of which state she was from. I know it's a good thing that Miss America is no longer the symbol of American womanhood she once was, although you could make all kinds of arguments about whether the new symbols are really the old one with more blatant sexual connotations, but it's just sort of strange that no one really cares anymore.

ANYWAY, weirdly enough, something else that happened about ten years ago is about to undergo some major changes -- namely that big WB/UPN merger into one network. I will admit to a moment of panic for Veronica when I first saw the headline this morning, but the scuttlebutt appears to be that Veronica is all but certain to make it into the new lineup, possibly paired with Gilmore Girls. Since Warner Brothers is VM's production company and they'll now have a 50% share in the network it airs on, it may even mean a bump in the advertising and merchandising budget. Hopefully, it will at least mean commentary on the Season 2 DVDs.

And while we're on my favorite TV related subject, casting news has Maebe and George Michael from Arrested Development adding to the already impressive list of cult-hit guest stars VM's assembled this season. They'll be in episode 16, apparently not playing cousins, but that's as far as my spoiler-phobic self was willing to go. (I believe episode 11 airs tomorrow, so that would be sometime in March.) Also, in case you don't read parentheticals, there's a new Veronica Mars episode on tomorrow. Everyone get happy! And a DVR if you insist on watching Lost!
