It's that time of year again.

No, not Halloween, stupid -- National Novel Writing Month!

I'm starting a completely new novel this year, and unlike my previous NaNoWriMo novel (which turned into the Novel Type Project, which is almost finished, by the way) I don't have any written outlines or character sketches, just sort of a vague idea of the plot and some of the character names. So we'll see if I burn out or write myself into a corner any earlier than Thanksgiving this year. I don't really expect to hit 50,000 words, so I guess my goal is to update my word count at least a few times after Thanksgiving (which is always my Achilles heel, and I'm going to be gone an extra day this year). Still, I'm going on nine months of writing at least a little bit every single day, so we'll see if my increased discipline will help or just make me more likely to write a few hundred words every day instead of the 1,600 + I need to stay on pace.

Not helping matters is that, on a whim, I decided to volunteer to help with the marathon this weekend. You all know how much I love Marathon Day, and I'm never going to run it myself, and it doesn't look like I'm ever going to persuade Married Brother to try and run it, so this is the closest I'm going to get to actually participating. However, this also means I am going to be getting up at 6 am on the first Sunday of NaNoWriMo and spending most of the day not writing. At least I have the time change to help me out, and it's not going to be too cold.

Anyway, the little word count total icon I had last year isn't being used this year (probably a bandwidth issue), so if you want to know how I'm doing, just click on the little icon in the links list and it will take you straight to my novelist profile.
