I love the 80's

Rambler asked me which rock/pop/new wave bands of the eighties do it for me. and i think it's a fabulous question!

There are so many I don't know where to begin (and yes, I should be Nanoing right now, but I need little break).

these are in no specific order, and there are tons of other 80's bands out there that I love, but i'm trying to keep it to more popular, or at least more new wavey bands.

The Jam
Adam and the Ants (before he turned into plain old Adam Ant)
The Alarm
The Fixx
Altered Images
Berlin
Boomtown Rats
World Party
New Order
The Pixies
ELO
Crowded House
Oingo Boingo
Echo and the Bunnymen
Men Without Hats (Pop Goes the World, not so much Safety Dance)
Real Life
Heaven 17
The Waterboys
The The
Naked Eyes
Til Tuesday
Brian Ferry / Roxy Music
Beastie Boys
The Dead Milkmen
K's Choice
Godley and Creme
The Church
The Cure
Yaz
Culture Club
Duran Duran

I have to also throw in
Huey Lewis
Hall and Oats
Asia
Glass Tiger
Toto
Loverboy The Bangles

Just sitting here thinking about all these bands takes me back to being a kid. I can give specific instances of hearing these songs and exactly what I was doing at the time.

A funny little aside:
Today I received an instant message from an unknown user, which was 'caught'.
The name sounded like it could be my mother's because she always puts her birthday in there, and this had it. I started talking to the person who asked me what was going on. For some reason the few things this person said didn't 'sound' like my mom, so I asked them to prove who it was. It was definitely my mom

Me: How do I know who this is? You could be a spy or something.

IM'er: You love John Travolta and Andy Gibb

Me: Mom, you forgot Shaun Cassidy ;-)

What makes this so funny is that when I was really little (5 or so) my mother would turn the tape player on to record and let me talk into it, so I could listen to myself on tape and so they would have something to remember my childhood (no camcorders, ya know). One of my favorite things to say was, "When are you coming to get me, John Travolta?" or "I love you John Travolta", or Andy, or Shaun (and I'm still upset I don't know what ever happened to my Shaun Cassidy charm bracelet when I was little. If anyone comes across one, let me know. I'll pay top dollar for it!)

So, I thought it was pretty funny that my mother would use that to identify herself.

Although, now everyone knows so I'll have to tell her to come up with somethig new. Heh. ;-)
