Santa Anas and Vampires

Been feeling oddly moody the past couple of days. Tired, cranky, and headachy. Only it always clears up after dark. I'm blaming it on the Santa Ana winds. Or incipient vampirism. Daniel and I are heading back to Berkeley tomorrow, so if it is just the San Diego weather that's bugging me, that will clear up.

It's been a good trip. I've spent time with a lot of family and a lot of old friends. I am looking forward to getting back home, though.

Well, I should get going. I'm going to have some lunch, and then take care of a couple of errands that need doing before I head out. And then I'm going to spend some time either working on a collaborative project for my proposal writing class, or reading Garth Nix's Abhorsen, which I picked up at the bookstore yesterday. ('Picked up' isn't quite the right word. More like, 'Snatched up and did a little dance of glee.')

You have read Nix's Sabriel and Lirael, haven't you? No? Well, run down to your nearest bookstore and get them! You won't be disappointed. Sabriel is very cool. And Lirael is that rarest of things, a sequel that's actually better than the first book. (Or it would be, if it weren't for the fact that it ends smack in the middle of all the action. But Abhorsen should mend that flaw nicely.)

Hmmm, I'm guessing that the group project may get short shrift this afternoon. I'll make up for it -- after I'm done reading Abhorsen.
