So, on Monday afternoon, my sister Stephanie somewhat impulsively gave three weeks notice at her job. On Tuesday morning, she got offered a newer, spiffier job, starting in three weeks.

Don't try this at home, kids. Only Stephanie can pull off this kind of impeccable timing. (Did I mention she'd been job hunting for six months prior to this with no luck?)

Also on Monday, I believe, my father gave two weeks notice at his job, having previously been offered a newer, spiffier job. My father, being not nearly as impulsive as my sister, proceeded in the more conventional order. My father also does this kind of thing all the time, so that was much less shocking.

So, my mother called me yesterday to fill me in on all of this, and then asked, with considerable trepidation, "So, how's work going?"

I reassured her that work is going just fine (apart from our ongoing short-staffing problem, which I believe may be resolved soon), and reminded her that I will soon be moving to a newer, spiffier apartment, so I have adequate new-n-spiffy in my life.

Then we talked shop about buying refrigerators. Auto-defrost all the way, man.
