Handspring sprung

The charging/syncing cradle for my Handspring Visor Edge handheld seems to have gone on the fritz. Well, half on the fritz. It will charge, but it won't sync. This is irritating.

This may be the universe's way of telling me that it is time to upgrade already. Problem is, last I checked, the current generation of handhelds didn't thrill me. They all seem to have too many bells and whistles that I don't need. Plus, their support for Mac OS X seems rather sketchy.

I'm nearly ready to just go back to using a paper journal/planner for everything. There is one thing I use my handheld for that would be hard to duplicate on paper - encrypted storage and easy retrieval of all my various electronic passwords. Hmmm...well, I suppose I could adopt an enciphering system. Yeah, I could build a tiny Enigma machine, and carry it in my pocket. Not exactly easy retrieval, but think of the geek cred.

Well, I'll have to go and do some research. Perhaps handhelds have gotten better since the last time I contemplating replacing the Visor. (I think it was about a year ago. Maybe more. That's like a generation in portable handheld device terms.)

Technology should just work, dammit.
