John and I finally got together for lunch, and had a fine time chatting about the state of independent filmmaking, and the projects he's got in the works. He's hiring on a finance person to help him with the financial prep of production (for example presenting a prospectus to potential investors), and one of the first tasks of this fellow will be to set up funding for a multi-picture deal for his production company.

I walked away with two scripts for the projects that are on the cusp of going forward -- both of which are set up with name actors, and look very promising. John did say that once things are final, I'm to meet with him again, look at the jobs that he needs done on one of the productions, and work with him. 'Course, we didn't discuss pay at the time, but he's also looking at a 5-week shooting schedule, which would be something I might be able to take time off of work to participate in. So, the foundation for that possible entree into the filmmaking world is definitely in place. John's enthusiasm is certainly genuine, and definitely contagious.

The other thing he's got going is a TV pilot he's trying to get developed with a production company. I've definitely got a potential in there, but we're going to have to wait and see if John can push the company enough to start laying out the money for this one. Still, my connection there is very solid.

So, keeping the relationships cultivated and exploring the possibilities, one brick at a time.
