I am jazzed that the Phillies signed Lee...even though I would have rather have seen my childhood hero, Nolan Ryan, have kept him. But, here is what I really want- let's see the Phillies go back to a four-man rotation. Let's see them use Halladay-Lee-Hamels-Oswalt every four starts. I want to see four 20-game winners like Palmer-McNalley-Dobsen-Cuellar...I want to see a rotation that rivals the Dodgers of the 60's...Koufax, Dysdale, Sutton and Osteen...or how about the 54 Indians staff? I want to see complete games and Halliday, Lee and Oswalt seem to try to complete their starts...I know that will never happen but it is a dream of mine. Halliday is a throw back to the REAL starters- he wants to finish what he starts. Lee fits right in- he seems to want to stay in the game. Oswalt wants to go farther than the managers usually want him to. Now- if we could bring back Billy Martin to manage them- we would see 300 innings out of all of them- and at least three 20 game winners- anda pennant for the Phillies...remember that their bullpen sucks. I want to see 300 plus innings- and 15 complete games (at least) and 300 strikeouts..at least one more time before I die. I long for the days of Ryan...Carlton, Marichal, let alone...Wilbur Wood...or look at the all time leaders..of course it was a diffent game them...Cy Young had 750 complete games...let's see...if you average 25 complete games each year- which NO one can do- that would take only 30 years to accomplish...take that Roger Clemens- you steroid abuser. So we can make that reoord untouchable. So is the record for most wins in a career...500 plus by Cy Young. That is an average of 20 wins- which very little people acheive- for 25 years...never going to happen. All of the pitching records are secure. I guarantee it. While the hittting records continue to fall- due to steroids- smaller parks- weaker pitching- changing rules- the pitching records will stay safe an secure. Once again- that is why Nolan Ryan is today- and always will be- my hero. I love you Nolan...and I challenge any- and, all of you, to find another player that, without chemical help, dominated baseball for nearly 25 years as Ryan did. Gotta love that man. The ONLY thing I hold against him is that he never showed up for my wedding after I sent him an invitation- guess he was too busy throwing another no hitter...thanks for the memories, Mr. Ryan...
