2006-05-08 9:38 AM Oh yeah, music... Previous Entry :: Next Entry Read/Post Comments (1) I feel like I'm saying this every day, but wow, what a day yesterday! Turns out I don't sleep so well w/out hubby - note taken for future reference. So I get up yesterday morning around 6:25 when I was supposed to leave at 6:30. Oops. Halfway to Rob and Tim's, I realized I had forgotten my glasses. How does one forget one's glasses when one cannot see without them? When one's eyes feel like they have glass shards in them whether you have glasses or not.
I picked up Rob and Tim, took them to Lake (Tim was already late thanks to me) and turned right back around, drove to Glendale and picked up my glasses. Fine. 1/3 of the way back to Lake, I had my first ever freeway tire blowout. Very exciting! It wasn't a steering tire, so it wasn't as scary as I thought the experience would be. AAA is great, and Rob was already at Lake, so, no big deal, right? Right. Tow truck came, put this pathetic little excuse for a shadow of a tire on, admonished me about speed and distance, fine, go away. I start driving away, and as soon as the spedometer reaches about 40 miles per hour the rear half of my car starts shimmying back and forth, back and forth like the damn thing has a hinge in the middle. "Eee-uh ee-uh ee-uh" says Jerry! Consequently, I was on the freeway going about 35 mph and it took me at least 20 minutes to get to Pasadena. Thanks to Rob, everything was fine and I even got a lot of extra work done throughout the morning. However, come 2:30 that afternoon, I realize that I'm playing bass at the Warehouse service that night...for the first time in a year and a half...yipes! I had my backup bass and an amp. No cables, no pedals, no strap, no tuner, no nada. All my gear is in storage. Procrastination to the max. So: hop back in Jerry and ee-uh, ee-uh ee-uh all the way to the nearest Guitar Center, where a mere $130 fixes me up just fine. Eee-uh ee-uh ee-uh back to Lake, only 15 minutes late...aw shit, I realize - I'm playing BASS tonight! I was intimidated, freaked out, nervous, however you want to say it. I was all of a sudden under inspection by people I had known and worked with for two years; my entire confidence base had shifted (or disappeared). Long story short, I played really well and had a great deal of fun. I forgot how much of a rush it is playing with a group of other people. Major endorphins - almost as good as martial arts! In any case, I guess I passed the test and will ostensibly be invited back at some point. Yay! Music will be a welcome presence in my current situation. Today, I must 1) get new tires all around on Jerry; 2) grocery-shop; 3) do the laundry; 4) run all the miscellaneous errands that seem to come up on errand day; and 5) soak my raw, aching fingertips in something to try to speed the regrowth of their missing skin! Nothing like bass strings to rip up your lil' pink tender fingertips. Sheesh, that's a lot of stuff...guess I'd better hop to it... Read/Post Comments (1) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
