Shopping Trip!

Hub and I did a double-duty shopping trip today: we went to pick up a jewelry box for my anniversary present (yes, it's what I wanted) and did a little grocery shopping too. Part of the reason for the grocery trip (other than needing food) was for hub to see the kinds of things I'd like to have in my lunch boxes. He was pretty attentive. We discussed what works and what doesn't work, and he helped pick out a few things that I might have passed on for whatever reason (mostly price...we got strawberries, but I almost didn't pick them up).

We picked up quite a bit of fresh fruits and veggies (mostly veggies): cauliflower, broccoli, grape tomatoes, a cucumber, a couple of red potatoes for a potato salad I want to try, baby carrots, strawberries (I really wanted some grapes too, but they were almost $4 a pound! yikes! And cherries were close to $6 for maybe half a pound! o.O), tangerines, and celery. We also picked up some vanilla yogurt, mandarin oranges, pineapple bits, and a few other things.

We looked for with Gouda Babybel or Laughing Cow cheeses, but Wal-Mart didn't have either. :(

They also didn't have the mirin I need for a few Japanese recipes I want to try. But I actually expected that--even the super stores have smaller grocery sections than grocery stores. So maybe hub will find it when he does his shopping for meats (the Wal-Mart meats looked kinda skeery!) later today. I'll have to revamp my list a little too--I need the sweet with my "Chex mix" so hub says what I really want is trail mix. Works for me!

Lunch today: Salad with hardboiled egg, olives, and grape tomatoes; a Babybel; sliced apple with vanilla yogurt for dipping, cornbread (made by me), and tea. Dessert: 2 cordial cherries. The vanilla yogurt was surprisingly good!

Dinner tonight will be Incredible Hamburger Pie. Eggs, cheese, hamburger meat, onions, and Bisquick. ;) Plus some veggies and maybe dinner rolls.

Good, healthy food all around. :)
