The Spice of LIfe

I resolved in the back of my head to try to get back to blogging every day, because I miss it and it's good for me. I don't know if I'll ever return to the marathon - I wrote a blog entry almost every single day for six years - but I do need to update more than once or twice a month. I still believe deeply in blogging for the Future Generation. Since Momma passed I have taken deep comfort in her blog. So, there's that. It doesn't pay, but that doesn't lessen its importance, IMO.

This was the summer of Amazing Garage Sales. Partnered with the Divine Mizz M, my BFF, we plotted and planned each Saturday (with some Fridays thrown in) with all the finesse of a general with a battle plan. We'd scrutinize garage sales listed on Craigslist on Thursday and Friday night, map them out, and start off at the butt crack of dawn with travel mugs of caffeine and the Magellan. It paid off big-big for both of us. Over the course of Garage Sale Season, she was able to outfit her new grandson with all the clothes, toys, and accouterments an infant needs, plus she scored an entire wardrobe of brand new or nearly-new business suits to fit her new, slim, svelte self -- and the shoes to match. She looks like she just stepped out of the Wall Street Journal.

Me? Well, I'm not so keen on the clothes thing, but I did get a large flat screen monitor for $5, a bread machine for free (loaded and baking right now, even as we speak), a butterfly quilt rack (for $3!!), a ton of cross stitching kits (at 50 cents a pop, I almost wet my pants), and sheets for backing when I start to quilt again. Books, of course -- I've almost replaced my entire Stephen King collection, and I also bought a working sewing machine for $10, which was probably my most expensive purchase.

We'd hit our marks, sometimes with company and sometimes just the two of us, and end up at the Happy Cow for some much-needed sustenance. Then, it was home to gloat over our "steals" and a well-deserved nap.

We had a blast.

Now the season is winding to a close, and I'll miss those Saturday mornings. I already can't wait until next year. Heh.

I have also become 15 pounds lighter over the last six weeks. I am sick and tired of feeling sick and tired, and figured it was high time I made some changes. The first (and hardest!) thing to go was Pepsi. Oy. It's my crack, I'll admit it. Then, since I have a very bad habit of missing meals, I try to make sure I'm eating at regular intervals. Like, you know. Breakfast which includes actual food, and not coffee. (I know!) Chips went with the Pepsi and were replaced by pita chips and hummus -- mmm mmm! A daily multi-vitamin and some supplemental nutrients round out the whole program.

So far, so good.

I've considered adding exercise to the whole thing, but let's not get crazy here. I believe I will at some point, because the sedentary life of a writer is not kind to your muscles, especially the ones located in your fat ass. Just sayin'.

Today's topics include cleft lip surgery, the risks of testicular sperm extraction, and wedding tiaras. How's that for a variety? Heh.
