We had a successful one-hour appt with Cathy Eisenburg last evening. We talked about our backgrounds, why we were interested in adoption, and what we felt comfortable with as far as locations and our family members. We had a chance to ask all our questions.

Cathy did mention a couple interesting points. First, to make sure we tell everyone we come in contact with on a regular basis that we’re adopting a foreign child. We are sure we’re comfortable with a, perhaps, non-Caucasian child, but will everyone be comfortable with that? Our immediate family will be okay, but will our friends? Coworkers? Community? It gave us some definite “food for thought.”

Cathy gave us an application to fill out and guidance regarding getting an INS (Immigration and Naturalization Service) form to fill out. She suggested that we begin now with applying for a homestudy and the necessary paperwork, because in “regular time” it will take a couple months to complete. Doug and I decided that we will wait to tell extended relatives and friends about our decision until after our homestudy is completed.
