When Winning Becomes Nothing

Student "edition" found at {csi dot journalspace dot com}.

Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on.

I just realized that the title of my post yesterday has double meaning.

I was intending to say gift-giving days brings out childish behavior, but now I just realized that "Great Winter" could also mean one's senior years, when the old dog that can't learn new tricks instead reverts to ones learned when still in diapers.

Another thing I forgot to mention yesterday was that this little big kid also rejected the idea of having another white elephant exchange gift like three years ago (not last year as he keeps repeating - somehow his memory of all Christmas parties past have blurred, I guess because of the cumulative negative impact on him) because it's not a personal gift.

He really wants the anticipation and receipt of a gift from at least one person who bought that thing specifically for him from his wishlist, even though there is the stigma of obligation behind it.

Anyway, hopefully that will be the last I will say about that matter - for now, you just know there's the drawing of names and the actual gift giving itself that has to be chronicled.

@@ As an addendum to what I talked about today in the student accessible version of this journal, I'm not at all glad that it was the overall sports coordinator that was my team color's representative to the meeting about how to resolve the badminton tournament hoopla. I mean, come on, he's one of the people who came up with the arrangement in the first place.

AND, he only shows up for the important games such as that mixed doubles finals berth tie breaker, since he fancies himself to be the team's "secret weapon" - as do the other team leaders when I didn't put his name on our roster during the only time he was present - and only because his P.E. class just finished.

What I was really intending at that point was to let the others who showed up for the first time (and not on our regular weekly playing) get a chance to bat (or racket) for the team.

Yeah, I guess practicing equal opportunity for bonus points to all students in the classroom leaks to other aspects of my life as well.

Session 1921 wants different rules in different sports to highlight his team's strengths and underscore their weakenesses. Class dismissed.
