In Real Life, You Catch Up By Yourself or Get Left Behind

Student "edition" found at {thoughts dot com slash typed no space out no space loud slash blog}.

Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on.

There seems to be an increase this term of students who don’t attend classes (or even it’s not strictly their fault, only move to the right class after the first or second week of classes), or, in the case of computer systems organization, find out that the class they need in the newer flowcharts already have a pre-requisite that they are technically not required to take.

I don’t remember what was the reason she gave why she didn’t take this subject last term, when I thought it was going to be the last time that I would have to have a truncated outline that had to cater to those who had not yet taken switching theory as well as making it not too repetitive for those that have.

An additional problem is that the rest of the students in the class, computer engineering students, have not only taken switching theory but also digital systems design, which means that the “new” student (from the school of IT and computing) would have to catch up on two terms worth of topics.

I already told her what she had to read in the text book to be able to follow the lectures, but it’s not enough for her, and neither is the help the other students are volunteering.

So she asks for sessions where she can consult with the teacher, which sadly is not often. She set an appointment yesterday morning, which she didn’t keep. Earlier this evening, she sent a text message through a former student asking for a consultation tomorrow at 9am. When I replied that I would only be available at 930am, she said she will try to be there.

I hope that means that she has classes at that time, because otherwise, it doesn’t make sense why she would ask for an appointment at an earlier time but not make a later set.

@@ E-frame is officially in the school of business now, since his information doesn’t show up anymore in my academic advising account, only set for engineering upperclassmen. I wonder what their agreement is about the grades he’s supposed to get to stay in the program. Maybe his wheedling will now get him the grades he wants to stay in school; it has certainly helped some of the other underachieving students in that program.

So much then for his imploring before that he really wants to be an engineer; when the chips are down, he’d rather stay in the school rather that be the talk of the town for having left. At least if he finishes in that course, the only harm he’ll cause with his slacking will be himself with literal unfinished business.

Session 2521 doesn’t like that the problem just passed itself to a friend. Class dismissed.
