HAPPY HOLIDAYS FROM BRUTAL DREAMER!

Brutal Dreamer, (c) 2003 December Christmas Issue:

Hello Friends and Fellow Authors:

I am writing this newsletter before the holidays because we know how hectic the holiday season can be. I hope you all have a very safe Christmas with your loved ones. Be safe as you travel. This is a time when we are most thankful (or should be more thankful) for the many blessings that have been bestowed on us. Granted, 2003 has been a troublesome year. In October and September of this past year (within two weeks of one another) both my husband’s parents passed away, my Grandmother has spent the last two months in the hospital with pneumonia and isn’t doing too well either. A girl in my sons’ classroom was killed in an auto accident. A friends’ two-year old nephew has been going through a major fight for life and received his double lung transplant. It just seems it can be endless of negative and tends to be what we focus on. But as I sat here and thought about the positive things that have occurred in 2003 I began to smile a little and realize, I have much to be grateful for. His little nephew is fighting the fight and winning the battle so far. Mark West informed me that a fellow Snoopy fan, his Sister. passed away a few days ago. My deepest sympathies go to Mark and his family during their time of sorrow. With so much sadness and wonder going on I still must admit things do look brighter as we approach the new year: 2004 and I have much to grateful for.

My husband and children are my pride and world, and I am grateful to have them share my demented world of brutality. I also have come to know many of you authors in the past year and done a great many projects with you all. I have enjoyed it very much and look forward to 2004 with you.

December 2003, I will share my 19th Wedding Anniversary with the sweetest and most daring man I know, David, my husband. I say daring because you have to be brave to spend THAT long of time with The Dreamer much else go for another year after being tortured for twenty! Send your best wishes to him. I am most sure he needs them as he faces another year with me. Thank you sweetheart for always being there and not running away screaming! In case you all don’t know this: I am difficult to live with, I am set in my ways, and I am total loner –so try dealing with that for a few years.

This past year 2003 was also another momentous year for me because both my children were in high school this year. Most of you know Miss Lizzy (through her artwork and working for Sintrigue Dot Org DETECTIVE as their artist), Lizzy started high school this year. My son, Isaac, is a Junior and now I live with the constant dread of the driving ages. I am going to be frazzled until the day I die. Is there anything more traumatizing than teenagers driving –outside of the insurance bill?

Isaac made the A/B honor roll this past semester. I must brag! If you knew my son, and his loving passion for school, you’d understand. What a constant battle it’s been! WAY TO GO SON! Isaac excels in DEBATE and has gone to many tournaments and even won a few trophies and placed well in the state comps. Isaac also excels even more so in History and Government (his favorite subjects and topics of conversations) Lizzy, of course, excels in ART and has won a few contests and also excels in DRAMA. (This is a surprise to me. She was such a shy little thing in Jr. High) now she has placed in skits and will be performing a play she wrote. YES, SHE WROTE. I am extremely proud of her too. Her play is called: KALUA THE MAGNIFICENT. Congrats Miss Lizzy!

On to what my newsletter is about: Brutal Dreamer and what she is up to. I am going to take it subject by subject below. I hope you enjoy the “special edition” of the Brutal Dreamer newsletter for December 2003. Until next year, be safe, be kind, and be good to one another! Support your fellow authors and publishers and mostly have a fabulous holiday!

ARTISTS David Megitis and Keith Wigdor
illustrates for:
BRUTAL DREAMER books!

Artists David Megitis and Keith Wigdor have done me the honor of becoming the artists
of my flash-fiction books and short-story collections.
Nov. 16, 2003 our first collaboration was completed and the birth of a new book was born!

Keith Wigdor's image: “VERDELET, DEITY OF WITCHES” for my "TIME TO SCARE GRAMMA OUTTA HER SKIN" story.

John Edward Lawson, the ever-trusty gore-bud of mine, transferred
my short book to pdf so that I can be ready to submit this horror-delight to publishers.

David Magitis created a brutal image, based on my “ENTITY OF DARKNESS” short story. Fitting it to perfection. David also created some horrific pieces of art to capture my:“TIME TO SCARE GRAMMA OUTTA HER SKIN” and “…WITHIN MY DEATH GALLERY” poem. [David is also the coverartist for the SICK anthology]

Many future works and several dark, gore stories of mine will be illustrated giving my stories a 3-demensional feel by these very pungent and dark images reflecting the minds eye of HORROR.
Thank you, David and Keith!

Visit David and Keith at the Hammond Gallery

or their websites:

Update: December 1, 2003, I received word that Keith Wigdor has resigned from the surrealistic art world. Keith your work will be sorely missed. I appreciate the pieces I have received for my latest works and books. Many thanks. Good luck in your endeavors.

Terror Tales Re-Launches
in time for Christmas
BODY HORROR ISSUE:

We’ve all heard the news, Hertzan Chimera has taken over the ship and he has a mutiny on his hands. We’ve given him the hellacious, brutal, evil and most bizarre behavior we have in us and he had only one resort left to do, publish the evildoers in his Christmas Issue of TERROR TALES.

All TERROR Scribes and Scribettes will be receiving new forums. Out with the old and in with the new! Damn, there goes my purply dungeon. Drop by for Cool-whip and Choco pudding before it goes to Cyberland Cootie Hell.
I guess our dungeons were smelly and it was time to do some house cleaning and Hertzan cleaned out the Terror chambers. Please visit me at my new forum and post, promote, or just bullshit on the new forum. Mostly --brutalize the holy hell out of it! I insist.

Welcome aboard, Hertzan, you deviant one.

CHIMERAWORLD #2
Hell is a sorry shit hole

Still reeling from the nightmare excesses of CHIMERAWORLD #1 (due in paperback & ebook Q1 2004)?
Relax a while and enjoy the ambient tones of sadness, depression, degradation and utter hopelessness of CHIMERAWORLD #2. A perfect paperback anti-dote to that brain battering bitch, the pure power-chords of deep, deep despondency. I will again want 23 original stories. 1000-4000 words. Pay is equal share of royalties. And just to speed things up at my end, there's a one month submission window of SEPTEMBER 2004.

There is no hope, only CHIMERAWORLD #2. Available from Cyber Pulp, Q1 2005.

TERROR TALES ISSUE #2 - FUCK HORROR
TERROR TALES - quarterly webzine; h (fic/poem). Pay: exposure. Words: up to 1-4k (poems: 100 lines). RT: 2 weeks. Reprints: yes. E-subs: only. Hertzan Chimera, Editor. Issue Two, Theme/Date: Fuck Horror/Easter 2004

THE EDITOR SPEAKS:
The relaunch issue of Terror Tales (BODY HORROR, due Xmas 2003) achieved everything I set out to do. The site has been successfully redesigned to give it a more mature and darker look. The issues with Message Board security and discipline have been resolved. Some stunning articles decorate the new look.
This second issue FUCK HORROR is gonna set a new standard. For me, traditional horror is a lame dog that needs putting out of its misery. Basically, I am taking off the gloves and accepting anything that says FUCK HORROR as a dying genre --- that could be ANTI-HORROR stories --- that could be GAY romance, that could be SURREAL, NON-CONSENSUAL, UNDERAGE.
As I can offer no pay for your twisted worlds of words, I will happily take reprints --- however, I recommend that to truly do justice to the FUCK HORROR theme you'll be looking to unleash your anger on something that will never have been published anywhere. Send me your answer to the franchised greyness that is the anaemic mainstream horror turd.

THE LIBERATION OF NON-HORROR
You will see that I have recently switched over the title of my b.l.o.g. http://hertzanchimera.blogspot.com from "Hertzan Chimera, horror author" to "Hertzan Chimera, psycho-erotic author". This is more a reflection of what I enjoy writing. For just a while there, I thought I could crack it as a pure genre writer in the horror field. It was a pointless dalliance. And after negativity from my ex-agent after a year of waiting, I decided to kick the horror bit into touch.
Hertzan Chimera cannot restrict his output to mainstream monsters and mainstream narrative. The cap just doesn’t fit. So here, liberated from having to comply to restrictive genre practises, the writing beast within me has a hunger that is difficult to sate.
For over the last year, my third novel Yôroppa has been in limbo - it was doing alright up until one point earlier in 2003, this inertia peaked round about the time I visited Japan in May. What usually happens is I go on holiday, the change of scenery is an inspiration. But with Japan, nothing happened.
Slowly though, the urge to complete this third novel has grown and grown, climaxing with my split from this literary agent. It's like someone has pulled a dark heavy cloth from over my eyes, unleashing my creativity. Whereas last week or so Yôroppa weighed in at exactly 50,000 words, it now stands proud at 65,000 words and getting better all the time.

KICKING ASS and COLLABORATING
on a book with
JOHN EDWARD LAWSON

I have been collaborating on a book with the talented John Edward Lawson. It has begun to take shape –quite a horrific shape indeed and truly has taken on a new breed of story telling. I am truly enjoying this experience very much. Besides, I must keep the zombies taking cold showers and keeping Johnny boy alert! He just never knows what I will throw his way! (Then again, he keeps me mummified in his deathly grip as well.) We are hoping to complete our book mid/late 2004.

Other NEWS and STUFF:

David Bowlin has moved from his palm trees and beaches of Florida to the mountainous regions of Kentucky! Congrats on the move, Dave. I am also collaborating a CHRISTMAS HORROR story with Dave.

Don’t forget, my Brutal Dreamer website, published the latest Halloween Issue with the contest stories. If you haven’t read the stories yet, I highly recommend that you get over there and read them!

I will be sending Kailleaugh and Alex my updates soon. I haven’t had the time to get them in order just yet. I will try to do that sometime this week. Have you checked out their websites? If you want to hear them read, go click their site.
