I have a long long to-do list including things like getting to the bank, returning clothes, figuring out what the heck we are doing in two weeks when we have nothing planned. . . My major accomplishment of the day was getting airplane tickets to see the grandparents in August.

But the thing about to-do lists is they keep going. We had an unplanned trip to the doctor today. After swimming, Rose's ear was bothering her. Actually, Rose had woken up at 6:00 with her ear bothering her, but John and I had not worried too much about it. Rose goes into paroxysms of agony about a toenail she has bitten too short, so it's difficult to sort the "I believe you that it hurts. Have an ice pack and go back to bed" from the emergency room visit. Given the correlation with swimming though, my sister thought it might be swimmer's ear, and I took us all of to the doctor.

Correlation does not equal causation. She did not have swimmer's ear; she had a minor ear infection. The doctor gave us a prescription and said use it if things get a lot worse.

While we were there, we also discussed the terrible pains Rose gets behind her knees. She'll wake up in the middle of the night in agony. (Agony might be overstating. Let's say, in pain and freaked out.) We noticed it tends to happen more after a day of hard exercise. Tylenol and an ice pack get her back to sleep. Turns out Rose is a bit hyperextensive (as I am), and she probably has growing pains. Any folk remedies on preventing growing pains?
