David's best swim lesson ever

David, as you may recall, prefers not to take swim lessons. I had completely given up even suggesting we go to his class. Instead, he and I play in the pool in the afternoon. Yesterday, Julia and I tossed him back and forth. We never actually let him go all the way under water, but there was some serious splashing and face getting wet. He had a grand time.

Today, we were playing in the kiddie pool during Rose's lesson, and he said he wanted to take his swim class. I was so unprepared that I didn't have a way to get Rose home, but I wasn't missing this chance. I sent her up the hill with a random neighbor and headed over to parent/tot in the big pool.

David was like a new child. He joined in everything--monkey walks along the wall, blowing bubbles, kicking, reaching and pulling. He jumped to his teacher. He did big jumps to me. One time he did a belly flop and I told him he was diving. He was very excited about that. He wanted to do a bunch more. He actually kicked and moved his arms at the same time and kept telling me to get my hands out of the way. I think he thought he was now actually swimming. Some day he actually will.
