ice skating on the solstice

On the solstice, Rose went to a solstice parade. Naked bicyclists! Clowns on stilts! Sun! That makes total sense. David and I went ice skating.

You see, about six months ago, I took the kids ice skating, and there was a big sign up about the show on 6/21/14. The kids begged to go, and I said maybe. I also put it on my calendar, and as the date got closer, I realized we could actually make it. And then at the beginning of the week David announced he wanted to go ice skating. So, it all came together. David then decided he didn't want to see the show, but we were committed; we had invited four of his friends, and I had invited my good friend.

None of his friends showed. (On a beautiful sunny day in Seattle, I don't know why not.) But my friend came, and I had a heavenly time going around the rink telling her everything and hearing hers. David had a nice time skating and seemed to have let go of his refusal to watch the show, gluten-free rice krispie treats might have helped. The show was just the different classes and their star pupils performing, but they put on a serious production. The costumes and lighting were great. The skating varied from adorable to impressive. None of it was breathtaking because, as my friend and I both noted, some of the kids may be paraprofessionals, but they aren't professionals. (Those paraprofessional kids are homeschooled and skate all day every day. Every time we go to the rink, they are there.) The theme for the night was Disney with a heavy emphasis on Frozen, so we recognized most of the songs. We had a dandy time, the show was free, and it did not last forever. We may actually go to the next one.
