another day another sleepover

During the school year, I am pretty parsimonious about sleepovers for Rose. Because, she doesn't sleep much or well and comes home grumpy and non-functional for days.

But, hey, it's summer!

Thursday night, while all the grown ups were out dancing, she had a sleepover with the three other girls she ate lunch with every day in middle school, that is her cousin Miriam, her friend A. who she's known since kindergarten, and her new friend S. who is unfortunately switching schools next year. Yes, she was tired the next morning, but too bad, we bundled her off to quilting with Miriam and Sheila. The girls are working on their Bat Mitzvah service project--quilts for babies in the NICU. The first one is just gorgeous.

Then Saturday when all the grown ups were dancing together (hmm, I sense a theme), Rose, A., J., and E. decided to have a slumber party. These girls have all been friends since kindergarten and have maintained those friendships despite being at three different middle schools. Luckily, David did not resent Rose disappearing. And today, I insisted Rose socialize with many grandparents, go swimming, and pack. Perhaps, I'll let her sleep tonight.
