The first week of school begins

First of all HAPPY BIRTHDAY KELLEY! My little niece is 3 today! And so far it looks like she will not share her birthday with her soon to be little sister. :)

So Jade started school this week. Its been interesting. One does tend to forget how much paperwork needs to be filled out for school. The same information presented at least five different ways. Thankfully Jade doesn't see any of that. She seems to like it so far. She is eager to jump out of the car each morning. She looks so little as she runs up to the school doors. And yes, she is indeed the smallest kid in the class. She actually asked me not to go into school with her, she wants to go by herself. I am proud of her independence, but I am a little sad too. She is growing up. I keep reminding myself of the line from Finding Nemo about not letting anything happen to her, and how boring that would be. :)

Her teacher seems to be really nice, and definitely interacts well with the kids. Its a lot different then when I was in school though. The rooms are so bright and colorful. There are computers in each room, as well as a computer lab that the kids go to once a week. The kids sit in groups at long tables, not in individual chair tables. And no more stale animal cracker and warm milk for snack time! (Of course that is because we have to provide snacks for her every day...) And the cafeteria still serves pizza on Friday...but its not cardboard with sauce...it's Papa Johns. (The high school actually has several fast food places in the cafeteria. Its weird.) And I can go online each night and monitor what she had for lunch that day.

Starting next week she will have homework each night. Not much, but enough to get into the habit. Jade is actually looking forward to this...I bet that doesn't last long though.

And 3 days into the school year the fundraisers start. Yes indeed, we got a package home tonight asking us to sell cookie dough and wrapping paper. Ugh. Thankfully Jade is too young to understand the whole win prizes for selling stuff concept. Hey Mom, want to buy some cookie dough? I'll eat it for you. :)
