I've been out of it for several days now as the little one has been very sick. He was very agitated and grumpy last Friday night when he went to bed, then came into our bedroom crying at about 1130pm and threw up. He has been running a high fever off and on since. We give him medication (Ibuprofen or Tylenol) and the fever comes down and he seems to feel fine. Some times he is completely back to his old self, but then he goes to sleep and the fever jumps back up. This has been going on for several days now.

We took him to the hospital on Monday, and they looked him over. Nothing... On Tuesday morning he was at 105.9... E.R. We stayed there for several hours. The poor little guy was poked and prodded all day. He got an I.V. and that helped, but he was doing a lot of screaming. I felt totally helpless as he looked at me when he was screaming, "No, I don't like it! Owie, Owie Owie!!!". I think sitting there and not being able to help him and take him out of there while he was screaming for help was the hardest thing I've ever had to do. Maybe not, but it definitely felt like it at the time.

All tests came back fine. They assume it's viral, but can't be sure. He had a fever again last nigh, but it topped out at 104.5 when he was all bundled up. Took off the covers and BAM! Down to 102.5 in about 30 seconds. (good news) Sleep is difficult as we are constantly trying to monitor him. When he's on medication his fever goes away and we have to ensure he's warm. When the fever comes back, we have to keep him cool. It wasn't above 102.5 this morning when I left, so maybe it can fight the virus at that non-dangerous temperature and he can finally kick this thing.

Other than that keeping him hydrated is our most difficult task. He doesn't want to drink for long periods of time, and then when he does, he refuses to drink slowly, there-by inducing vomiting. But he's getting better at listening, obviously due to trial and error. We let him be combative, as the poor guy has gone through hell the last few days. (Not when it comes to meds or liquids though)

I'm just rambling here so I can get this off my mind as he's got me a little worried. I do think he's had a marked improvement since yesterday though, and we have another appointment tomorrow, so we'll see.

Also, the wait in the E.R. was about an hour before we saw a doctor (typical), but once we were seen, the E.R. staff was phenomenal. It was the only positive experience I’ve ever had in an E.R. So here is a shout out to my Doc and his staff! Fight on!

Keep up the good fight!
