Whiskey and kissing

I think I'll write a bluegrass song called "Whiskey and Kissing." It'll be all about how the singer/narrator drinks a little whiskey and ends up kissing somebody, who turns out to be married. It'll be a true story.

I had a fabulous time at the Good Old Fashioned Bluegrass Festival, despite (well, okay, including) the above. I did a ton of jamming, and I was just really out there connecting with people and having conversations and introducing myself; the local bluegrass community now knows me as "Lola, sister of Jessica Who Plays Bass." And they're starting to also know me as Lola Who Plays Guitar, which is nice.

Okay, so back to the whiskey and kissing. Among the many people I hung out with, many of whom are friends or acquaintances of my sister, was this one particular guy. I'm not going to say anything that could identify him here, because that would be kissing and telling. Okay, it's true, I'm kissing and telling, but I'm not telling who he is. Anyway, I stayed up late talking with a group of people and drank a small amount of whiskey and ended up kissing this guy. Just a small amount of kissing, really, but there had been some definite flirting happening too, both ways. And some amusing exchanges of words and flirtations the next day, too. Plus he bought me lunch, which was nice. And then when everyone was all leaving, and I went to say goodbye to him, he said, "You do know I'm married, right?" Ahem. No, I replied, and verified that he was, in fact, serious, and had assumed I knew that from my sister.

Ah well. The thing is, I will undoubtedly see him lots in the future, at jams and festivals and stuff, and although I was a little bit annoyed that I hadn't been given all the information up front, I more felt sorry for his wife. I mean, after all, I'm single. He's the one who isn't. All of which I told him. And I accepted his apology, because it's really no skin off my back -- it was just a kiss and some flirtation, and I've got plenty more of that available for people who are actually available -- and also, because he's fun to hang out with and I don't want to have this weird thing that is hanging over me at every jam or festival.

Y'know, guys can be big dorks sometimes. He totally wanted to kiss me because I'm cute and fun and flirty, but I mean, really!

But I also got to hang out with some great guys and gals, including a new banjo playing friend, who is also married but it came up early in conversation, and plus he wasn't trying to pick up on me. And he's bringing his wife to my party, which is also good, because I'd like to meet her. He's like my new adopted bluegrass brother. Yay for new friends! And especially yay for jamming, because jamming is SO MUCH FUN!!!

Of course I'm pretty tired now, because I stayed up until 4 in the morning last night and got up at 8:30. I had a really good time this weekend. I didn't take on too much of the care of my nephews (which I have done in the past), and I made new friends and strengthened previous acquaintanceships. And I heard some really good music, and I did a bunch of jamming. Happy day.

In other news, I'm moving into my apartment next week! More on that to come.
